Artist's Bio and Statement
I was born in 1959 at Princeton,NJ. I grew up right in between New York City and Philadelphia always taking in the different exhibits and gallery happenings. Rothko and Newman were still around then and Warhol, Rauchenberg and Johns were and still are big influences.
Although absract expressionist or pop painters they were, two conflicting schools of thought, I did not understand their language but I knew they were speaking volumes to me.
Espesially the tragic Mark Rothko.
Traditional painters, American realists like Edward Hopper, Isabel Bishop and George Bellows to name a few as well as the Euro impressionists and Post impressionists are also significant influences.
After high school I attended The Art Institute Of Philadelphia for commercial illustration. I worked a few years in illustration a few years before I attended The Pennsylvania Academy Of The Fine Arts then the University Of Pennsylvania.
At the present my painting has evolved into not just related observations of everyday life but related experiences of the psychological aspects of our living consciousness. Through shape, color, symbolism,patterns and phrases my goal is to evoke some sort of sentimentality from the viewer.
